9/11 affected all of us, and many on Facebook said eloquent things about it.  I especially liked what my friend said:  “As we pause to remember those lost 12 years ago today, let us also remember how we as a community reacted.  Here is how I remember it, we came together, we gave blood, we sent food and water, we volunteered to assist, we went to church, we prayed, we hugged our family, friends, and neighbors.  At a time filled with grief and sorrow we were united. I like the idea that this day should be honored as a day of service.  Let it be a day that we show the world that we are not only patriotic but we also have compassion for all our brothers and sisters.  Let it be a day filled with service to others, simple little things; let that car trying to merge….let him in, hold the door for that mom struggling with a stroller, smile at the barista making your coffee.  For me, one of the lessons learned that day is that life is fleeting and too short…..let go of the grudge, the bitterness and the hate.”
