50 years ago, one of America’s greatest songwriters sang about injustice. Tonight, I realize that his words are timeless. Because a half century ago, he was writing about the civil rights movement. But his lyrics can easily be interpreted as a reference to Indiana when he wrote, “How many times can a man turn his head and just pretend that he doesn’t see? The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind.” Blowin’ in the Wind has been covered by hundreds of artists; as has so many of Dylan’s songs. We are fortunate to have this American sage living & breathing in our lifetime. And I know that I am digressing, but I’d love to see a drag queen, dressed as Joan Baez, lip syncing to “Blowin’ in the Wind” at Indiana’s Pride. Wouldn’t that be historic?
